June Statewide Primaries and Runoffs a Success: Thanks to Voters, Poll Workers, & Election Officials

COLUMBIA, S.C. (June 26, 2024) – The S.C. State Election Commission (SEC) is thanking all voters, poll workers, and local election officials for helping make the Statewide Primaries and Runoffs a success. The state saw over 500,000 voters successfully cast their ballots in June.

 

"Thank you to everyone who came out to exercise their right to vote in these primaries and runoffs." said Howie Knapp, Executive Director of the SEC, "We are especially grateful to all the people who stepped up to serve as poll workers. Accurate and secure elections cannot be conducted in our state without their hard work and dedication."

 

Statewide Primary Statistics (Approx.)

  • Turnout from Primaries – 440,000 voters (13.5% total turnout)
    • Early Voting Turnout – 120,000 voters (27% of total turnout)
    • Election Day Turnout – 301,000 voters (69 % of total turnout)
    • Absentee Voting Turnout – 19,000 voters (4% of total turnout)
  • Turnout from Runoffs – 87,000 voters (5.8% turnout)
    • Early Voting Turnout – 25,000 voters (29% of total turnout)
    • Election Day Turnout – 58,000 voters (67 % of total turnout)
    • Absentee Voting Turnout – 4,000 voters (4% of total turnout)

The activities of the Lexington County Commission of Registration and Elections are governed by general state law pertaining to elections. These laws are codified in 1976 SC Code of Laws, Title 7, as amended.

The Lexington County Commission of Registration and Elections was created in 1973 by act of the General Assembly to combine the Commission of Elections and the Registration Board of Lexington County, see Act No. 89, 102SCSTAT(1973).

 

Reminder: 

If you have moved within the county since you previously voted, please make address changes at the Registration and Elections office by completing the on-line change of address form and bring it along with a photo ID with current address, or a utility bill, bank statement or other document that shows your current address to 605 W. Main St, Suite C, Lexington, SC.

June Statewide Primaries and Runoffs are Just Around the Corner

COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 2, 2024) –As South Carolina prepares for the 2024 June Primaries and Runoffs, the State Election Commission wants to highlight some essential dates and deadlines for voters to remember. This period is also a prime time for voters to educate themselves on the candidates and issues so they can be ready to make their voices heard when it’s time to cast their ballot.

Important registration dates & deadlines:

The 2024 June Primaries are on Tuesday, June 11 for both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. You can vote in either Primary, but not both.

  • The deadline to register to vote in person is Friday, May 10.
  • The deadline to register to vote online or by fax or email is Sunday, May 12 at 11:59 p.m.
  • The deadline to register to vote by mail is Monday, May 13 (must be postmarked by this date).

Already registered? Be sure it’s up to date by checking your voter registration information.

  • If you have moved within your county, make sure you are ready to vote by updating your registration.
  • If you have moved from one county another, you must register in your new county by the deadline to eligible to vote.

Vote Early

The Early Voting period for Primaries starts on Tuesday, May 28, and ends Friday, June 7. Early voting centers are open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Vote Absentee

The deadline to apply for an Absentee Ballot for the Primaries is May 31 at 5:00 p.m.

Vote on Election Day

Polling places are open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m.
